NEW BEGINNINGS

Something new is about to start in Collingswood. Two friends, Bernadette Rossi and Lois Fuller, who have a passion for fiber and a desire to share that passion with other fiber enthusiasts have started a fiber arts guild.

The first meeting is on March 13th from 7:30 p.m until 9:30 p.m. Anyone who has an interest in fiber or in learning about a particular fiber craft is welcome to attend. The meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month.

The location for the meeting will be in the Historic Collings-Knight House on Collings Ave. Collingswood, NJ.

Bernadettte and Lois have been friends for a good many years. (Don't ask how many.) That friendship started right in the Collings-Knight House. Bernadette was demonstrating spinning (making wool into yarn) for an open house event sponsored by the Friends of the Collings-Knight House. Lois was one of the visitors. Her daughter's 4th grade school project about the wool industry in Colonial America brought them together again. They have happily been spinning together whenever they could since then.

As members of another guild deep in the heart of South Jersey, they had to travel quite a distance to the meetings. Because family and life in general didn't allow for them to go so far all the time, they wished for something closer to home. Finally their wish is coming true. They invite you to come and join this group. This will be an opportunity for you to share your fiber interest with others or to learn something new.

Our first meeting will have a spotlight on spinning yarn since that was the craft that brought Bernadette and Lois together as friends. Lois will demonstrate how to prepare wool for spinning as well as the use of the spinning wheel and the drop spindle. Future spotlights will focus on knitting, crocheting, felting, weaving, period costume making for antique dolls, sewing and quilting to name a few. So grab your project if you have one started or just bring yourself and head on over to the Collings-Knight House on March 13th to meet up with some other crafty people.
